About Us
Mission
The mission of the United Methodist Church is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Browns Point UMC hopes to participate in that mission in the following ways:
- offer meaningful and creative opportunities for worship
- reach out to community groups not currently represented in our congregation
- offer small groups, prayer, scripture study, and service opportunities so all can grow spiritually
- enable individuals to discover, explore and use their God-given spiritual gifts
- invest our time and financial resources to help alleviate suffering in our local community and the world
- provide programs to nurture children and youth as they become Christian disciples
- assist parents and other adults in understanding and guiding the faith development of children and youth, as their own faith grows and matures
- provide hospitality to newcomers in a personal way and invite them into our church community.
Vision
Our vision is to be an inclusive community of Christians, extending God’s love and actions and having compassion for all people, while deeply nurturing the connections between young and old, God and Nature.
Worship Times
We have two Sunday morning worship services, at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Both services are similar in style and content, featuring our fantastic choir, upbeat music, and relevant preaching, but there are a few small differences:
At our 8:30 worship service, we celebrate Holy Communion (Eucharist) every week. All are welcome to participate! We use both traditional liturgies from the United Methodist Hymnal and Book of Worship and more creative and contemporary liturgies.
At our 10:00 worship service, we have a special time for children. Kids of all ages are invited to the front of the sanctuary for a special message geared toward their developing faith, after which they are invited either to return to their seats with their families or to go to Sunday School for the rest of the hour.
Joining the Church
If you have discerned that God is calling you to make a covenant with the Browns Point UMC community, we invite you to attend a quarterly membership dinner at the pastor’s home, where you will have an opportunity to learn more about being a United Methodist and the expectations of membership at BPUMC. Those who have attended the dinner are invited to join the church at a Sunday morning worship service during the month following the dinner. The next membership dinner is on Friday, December 9, 2011, with the opportunity to join the church on Sunday, December 18. For more information or to RSVP, contact Pastor Elizabeth at pastorschindler@gmail.com.
