My Sister’s Pantry
My
Sister’s Pantry is a faith-based, inner-city ministry that welcomes and serves all who come to their door. My Sister’s Pantry includes a food pantry that provides groceries and a kitchen that supplies hot meals.
My Sister’s Pantry is located in the lower floor of First United Methodist Church of Tacoma at 621 Tacoma Avenue South. Meals are served every first and third Monday evening from 5—7 pm and every fourth Saturday from 10 am—1 pm. Volunteers are asked to show up 1/2 hour before opening to help prepare. Volunteers, donations of food and money are always needed.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. They welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 150,000 houses in more than 89 countries, including some 50,000 houses across the United States.
Local Habitat affiliates coordinate house building and select partner families. Homeowner families are chosen according to their need; their ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest mortgage; and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat.
Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner families. Three factors make Habitat houses affordable to low income people worldwide:
1.Houses are sold at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage. 
2.Homeowners and volunteers build the houses under trained supervision.
3.Individuals, corporations, faith groups and others provide financial support.
Volunteers are always needed to help with a variety of projects
Heifer International believes in giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief. Since 1944 when Heifer first shipped cows to impoverished families, they have known that livestock offer one of the best resources for ending the cycle of chronic hunger and poverty that plagues two-thirds of the planet. Over the last five decades, Heifer has helped 4 million small-scale farm families on five continents.
Ending hunger and poverty and caring for the earth is a job that requires all of us to get involved. Heifer invites you to join one of their hands-on activities. There are many volunteer opportunities as well as a need for monetary donations. BPUMC has sent money to Heifer through our “change for children” offerings.
Kairos is an interdenominational Christian ministry with programs designed to be presented in state and federal men’s and women’s correctional institutions. The ministry is conducted, in cooperation with the chaplains of the prisons, by teams of laity and clergy who are selected, trained and certified by a governing body of Kairos. Volunteers have experience in renewal movements which focus on small group dynamics, share and prayer groups, personal witness and vulnerability in Christian community.
The purpose of Kairos is to establish strong Christian communities among the populations of the prison. Kairos is a ministry of the church. Kairos has been called the best example of the early church in existence today.
