Nursery
At Browns Point, the mission of our nursery is to be a place where children can grow in mind, body and spirit and be nurtured into a growing, life-giving faith. We partner with parents to help children grow in their trust of God by providing them with safe, loving and dependable care.
We have an adult Nursery Coordinator who is present each Sunday, as well as one or two other paid young people each week. All staff are trained in CPR and have been trained in health and safety policies. Nursery workers are trained to nurture babies by calling them by name and respecting each one’s preferences, routines and developmental stages. Babies are held often and cries are responded to promptly.
The Nursery is available during both services for infants, toddlers and preschoolers up to age five. Preschoolers have the option of attending the preschool Sunday school class during the 10:00 service. Parents fill out an information sheet at their first visit and each week parents must sign children in and out.
Our beautiful and well-stocked nursery is a fun place to be, and parents are welcome to drop in at any time! Babies and children of all ages are also welcome at all Sunday worship services. For more information on the nursery, contact Kathleen Delpino at kdelpinok@yahoo.com.
Children: Worship and Sunday School
Children have a central place in the life of the BPUMC congregation and we believe that they are full members of our faith community. We invite children to participate in the full worship life of the community, and they are always welcome in worship services! We also provide age-appropriate Sunday School classes for preK through 8th graders during the 10:00 worship service each Sunday. Children of all ages are invited to come to the front of the sanctuary for a special children’s message, then are dismissed to either go back to their seats with their families, or off to Sunday School.
Sunday School time for preK through elementary students begins with fun music time with our wonderful pianist, Andrew Larsen. Andrew enjoys teaching the children to worship through music, and the kids love singing with Andrew! After some time together, the classes separate to their own spaces for Sunday School time, reconvening in the church narthex (the lobby) at 11:00 for fellowship time with their families. For more information on children’s ministries, contact Melinda Giese at tom_mel.giese@earthlink.net.
Change for children: Teaching our children about helping others is important at BPUMC. One way we do this on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, when the children collect a change offering during worship using simple white bowls. Every six months, the children discuss and vote on what mission they would like to support with “their money.” They vote on and decide how to allocate the money to various missions organizations. Recent recipients have been: The Heifer Project, orphans in Africa, missions in Belize, and a daycare for homeless and low income children. The children enjoy taking this offering, and the congregation looks forward to supporting missions with their change!
Youth
At Browns Point, the youth group is always growing and changing and trying new things. The focus is on learning more about God, reaching out in service and having fun. The youth group is open to all young people age 6th grade through the end of high school, and friends are welcome!
The youth group meets each Sunday night from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and includes games (with prizes!), separate junior high/senior high time, a casual meal together, and prayers. The youth are led by fun and fabulous adult leaders: Kim Nagel, Kim Murphey, and Steven Schindler. For more information on the youth group, contact Kim Nagel at ksamnagel@comcast.net.
Confirmation
Confirmation classes are hosted every other year in the spring for youth in 6th grade or higher. For more information on confirmation, contact Pastor Elizabeth at pastorschindler@gmail.com.
